Andong Hahoe Village [UNESCO World Heritage] is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Andong Hahoe Village is a fully preserved Joseon-era yangban clan village in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, jointly inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010 alongside Yangdong Village in Gyeongju as a representative pair of Korean historic clan villages. Hahoe sits inside a pronounced bend of the Nakdong River — "Hahoe" literally means "river-encircling" — with the village arranged according to traditional Korean geomantic principles within the natural protective curve of the river. About 130 traditional houses still stand, including Joseon-era yangban residences, farmer thatched homes, ancestral shrines, and the village's signature mask-dance tradition (Hahoe byeolsingut tallori) which is itself listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The village remains a working residential community of the founding Pungsan Ryu clan. Best given a full day, ideally with one hanok overnight to experience the village's pre-dawn quiet.
