Why go

Juknokwon is a large public bamboo forest park in Damyang, Jeollanam-do, set up by the county on a hilltop above the Damyang town center. The park spans about 31 hectares of dense planted bamboo (mostly Korean wang-dae and oh-juk varieties) with about 2.4 km of laid-out walking trails threading between the towering bamboo stands. The trails are themed — Sunwon-gil, Hyo-gil, Jeokjeong-gil, and others — and link viewing platforms, a pavilion overlooking the Damyang valley, and a small pansori cultural center. The bamboo grows tall enough to fully canopy the trails, producing a distinctive cool-shaded micro-climate that runs noticeably cooler than the surrounding town in summer. Pairs strongly with Damyang's Metasequoia Road and the Soswaewon traditional garden for a full Damyang day, particularly in early summer green or autumn-yellow bamboo color.
