Why go
Boeun Udang Old House is a preserved Joseon-era yangban (aristocrat) hanok in rural Boeun, Chungcheongbuk-do, registered as a designated cultural property and one of the more atmospheric historic houses in Korea's central region. The compound includes the main sarangchae (men's quarters), anchae (women's inner quarters), gobi (servant's quarters), and a backyard garden with old trees, all arranged according to traditional Korean residential principles around the slope of the surrounding hill. Period furnishings — chests, low tables, hanji-papered walls, and ceramic stove-side rooms — give a sense of how an extended yangban household actually lived in the Joseon period. The house pairs naturally with Beopjusa Temple at Sokrisan, Boeun Cultural Center, and the Sokrisan area for a coherent inland Boeun day.
