Birthplace of Nongae is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Nongae's Birthplace in Jangsu, Jeollabuk-do, is a small reconstructed thatched-roof house on the mountain slope where the courtesan Nongae was born in 1574. The compound includes the modest birth house, a small museum tracing her life and the historical context of the Imjin War, and an outdoor memorial path with stone monuments. Bilingual panels explain her decision in 1593 to take a Japanese general to his death at Jinjuseong, an act of resistance celebrated for over 400 years. The setting is quiet hillside countryside rather than a polished tourist site. Allow about forty-five minutes. Pair with the Nongae Shrine just down the road and a Jangsu countryside lunch.
