Why go

Bukhansan National Park (Seoul side) is the largest mountain park inside any major capital city in the world, with peaks reaching nearly 837 meters at Baegundae and a network of granite ridges visible from much of central Seoul. The Seoul-side trailheads — Uiamsa, Doseonsa, Bukhansanseong — give immediate subway-accessible entry into serious mountain terrain, with hikes ranging from a two-hour loop to the full Baegundae summit ascent of about six hours round trip. The 18th-century Bukhansanseong Mountain Fortress wall traces the inner ridges and adds a major historical layer. The park draws over five million annual visitors and remains genuinely wild despite its proximity to the city. Best in autumn for foliage.
