Chungju Tangeumdae Height & Park

Tangeumdae Height was originally a mountain named Daemunsan Mountain. The scenery is amazing with rocky cliffs, the nearby Namhangang River, and lush pine forests. The place was named Tangeumdae because it was where Ureuk, the celebrated musician of the Silla dynasty (57 BC-AD 935), used to play the gayageum (traditional stringed instrument). Chungju's official guide connects the park to two distinct histories: the musician Ureuk is said to have taught and played the gayageum here, while General Sin Rip made his final stand at Tangeumdae during the 1592 Japanese invasion. The grounds also include Tangeumjeong Pavilion, Yeoldudae cliff, memorial stones, an outdoor music hall, an archery range, and sculpture and sports areas.
