Why go
Deogyusan National Recreational Forest sits inside Deogyusan National Park in Muju, on the western slopes of Hyangjeokbong (1,614 m). It's one of Korea's larger recreational forests, with a network of marked trails ranging from a one-hour stream loop to a four-hour ascent toward the Hyangjeokbong upper ridge. Forest Service cabins and group lodges are bookable through the official portal, and the elevation means the leaves turn a week or two later than the lower-altitude forests in the region — extending the autumn foliage season into early November. The Muju Resort and the Tageosak observatory are a short drive away. Reservations essential year-round. Pair with Muju Gucheongdong tourist zone.
