Dokkaebi Road (Mysterious Road)

Dokkaebi Road is a strange optical illusion stretch on Jeju Island, where a section of road that visibly slopes upward actually rolls cars in neutral gear toward the apparent top. The phenomenon is caused by the surrounding terrain, which tilts the visual horizon and tricks the eye into seeing "down" as "up." Visitors stop, put their car in neutral, and watch it drift uphill — the surprise factor is what makes this a perennial Jeju road-trip favorite, especially with families. The stop takes only ten minutes, and there's no entrance fee. It pairs naturally with the nearby Halla Arboretum and the Saryeoni Forest Path for a full inland Jeju day.
