Why go
Yongho-seok in Cheonnae-ri, Geumsan, are a pair of stone monuments — a dragon (yong) and a tiger (ho) — facing each other across a small open plain in rural Chungcheongnam-do. Locally believed to have been carved during the late Goryeo dynasty as a protective talisman against floods and ill fortune for the surrounding villages, the stones are unusual for their pairing and their location in open farmland rather than at a temple or fortress. Each is about a meter and a half tall and shows distinctive Goryeo-era carving style. Free, accessible at any hour. Allow about twenty minutes. Pair with the Geumsan Ginseng Museum and Market for a Geumsan day.
