Gangneung Gyeongpo Beach
Gangneung Gyeongpo Beach is one of the East Coast's most-cited beaches in Gangneung, Gangwon, a 1.
Why go
Gangneung Gyeongpo Beach is one of the East Coast's most-cited beaches in Gangneung, Gangwon, a 1.8-km stretch of fine white sand backed by the historic Gyeongpo Lake (a lagoon lake formed where the coastal river estuary was partly closed off by a coastal sand bar). The beach is a major summer swimming destination (July-August warm-water window) and works year-round as one of the East Coast's most-cited sunrise-photography destinations. The combination of the beach + adjacent Gyeongpo Lake + the surrounding cherry-blossom walking loop makes Gyeongpo one of the more layered coastal destinations in Gangwon. The Gyeongpo Cherry Blossom Festival (early April, typically the first week) draws substantial spring visitors for the cherry-blossom peak. Gangneung Ojukheon (King Sejong's mother's birthplace) sits about 10 minutes from the beach and pairs naturally with a Gyeongpo visit. Free beach access. Best at sunrise for the classic East Sea photograph or in July-August for swimming. Access: about 15 minutes from Gangneung Station (KTX — about 2 hours from Seoul) by taxi. Pair with the broader Gangneung East Coast cluster — Ojukheon, Noam Tunnel (batch 10 verified media-art tunnel), Anmok Beach Coffee Street, Jumunjin Port (same-batch verified working fishing port and Goblin K-drama filming location), and the Gangneung Coffee Street for a full Gangneung cultural-and-coastal day.
