Ganjeolgot Lighthouse (간절곶)
Ganjeolgot Lighthouse is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Ganjeolgot Lighthouse stands at Ganjeolgot, the easternmost point of mainland South Korea — the geographic feature that traditionally claims the country's earliest mainland sunrise on the lunar new year. The lighthouse is a slender white tower at the headland's tip, surrounded by a small public park with a viewing platform, an oversized red postbox-shaped landmark sculpture, and a small visitor information center. The site's main draw is the sunrise: on January 1 each year, large crowds gather here to watch the first sunrise of the new year over the East Sea, with the gathering treated as one of Korea's most prominent New Year sunrise events. Outside the New Year peak, the area is a quiet coastal walking stop. Pairs naturally with broader Ulsan-and-southeast-coast itineraries including Daewangam Park and the Ulsandaegyo Observatory.
