Why go

Geumneung Seokmulwon is an outdoor stone-sculpture park on Jeju's northwest coast, founded by master sculptor Jang Gong-ik who spent a lifetime carving local Jeju basalt into towering, often whimsical pieces. The grounds spread across a dramatic seaside hill, with hundreds of works ranging from grandfather-stone variations to figures from Jeju mythology and large abstract forms. The combination of black basalt, blue sea, and green hill is uniquely Jeju. Allow about ninety minutes for the full loop. The park is exposed and hot in midsummer; spring and autumn afternoons are best. Pair with nearby Geumneung Beach and the Hyeopjae coast for a full Jeju west-coast day.
