Why go

Dosoram is a small mountain hermitage perched high on the cliffs of Seonunsan in Gochang, the most spectacularly sited annex of the larger Seonunsa Temple complex. The climb up from Seonunsa takes about forty minutes through a stream-cut valley with stone bridges and old maples, ending at a tiny prayer hall built directly against a sheer rock face. A Goryeo-era seated Buddha relief carved into the cliff above the hall is the destination's highlight, designated a national treasure for its scale and preservation. The combination of the cliff setting and the relief makes this one of the most atmospheric small hermitages in Korea. Allow ninety minutes including the climb. Pair with Seonunsa Temple at the trailhead.
