Why go

Unjoru Historic House in Gurye, South Jeolla Province, is one of the best-preserved examples of a Joseon-era aristocratic residence in Korea. Built in the mid-18th century, the complex features the classic layout of a yangban estate, with separate quarters for men and women, a storehouse, and a lotus pond. The house is notable for a wooden rice container whose tap was left open so that passing villagers could help themselves — a tradition of communal generosity that has defined the estate's identity for generations. Visitors can tour the main halls, explore the surrounding garden, and learn about traditional noble household life.
