Why go
Gwangju Chungjang-ro KPOP STAR Street is a themed pedestrian street in central Gwangju's Chungjang-ro shopping-and-culture district, dedicated to the K-pop artists born or raised in Gwangju — a surprisingly deep list that includes several major first-generation and second-generation K-pop group members. The street combines commemorative plaques on the sidewalk (each with a small biographical marker for the honored artist), themed murals along adjacent walls, a small interactive display area with photo-and-audio content, and rotating pop-up promotional installations tied to current Gwangju-connected artists. The surrounding Chungjang-ro area is Gwangju's traditional shopping-and-cafe district, and the K-pop Star Street sits inside that broader pedestrian zone rather than functioning as a standalone destination — most visitors combine the street's walk-through with lunch or cafe visits in the adjacent blocks. Free access (public street). Allow about 30 minutes for the walk-through, longer if pausing at the interactive display. Best in the evening when the murals catch the district's neon lighting and the shopping district is at its most active. Pair with the broader Chungjang-ro area, the Asia Culture Center (5-minute walk), and the May 18 Democracy Memorial sites for a Gwangju cultural day.
