Why go

Gwangmyeong Cave is a former metal-mine that has been converted into a public themed-experience cave attraction in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi-do. The mine operated through the early-to-mid 20th century before being closed, and after sitting unused for decades the site was redeveloped as a multi-themed cave attraction featuring underground walking paths through the preserved mine tunnels, themed installation rooms (including a large underground concert venue), an underground wine cellar that uses the cave's stable cool temperature for wine aging, an LED light-installation room, and an interpretive area on the site's mining history. The cave runs cool year-round, which makes it a strong indoor backup option in summer heat. Pairs naturally with broader Gwangmyeong-area itineraries and as a day-trip stop within easy reach of Seoul.
