Why go
Gwisinsa Temple in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do, is a small Goryeo-era Buddhist monastery distinguished by an unusual stone seated bodhisattva trio — three stone Buddhas seated in a single rare arrangement that has drawn art-historian attention for centuries. The temple compound is modest, with a main wooden hall, the stone trio in a small protective shelter, and a stone pagoda — but the artistic significance of the trio outweighs the compound's size. The setting is quiet rural countryside in low Honam farmland, far from the major Buddhist destinations, which keeps visitor numbers genuinely low. Allow forty-five minutes. Best as a complement to a longer Honam Buddhist circuit rather than a standalone destination.
