Gyeokpo Beach (격포해변)
Gyeokpo Beach is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Gyeokpo Beach in Buan lies at the southern tip of the Byeonsan-bando coast, anchored by the Gyeokpo cliff face and the famous Chaeseokgang sedimentary rock formations just offshore. The beach itself is short and pebble-mixed rather than fine sand, but the dramatic geology of the surrounding cliffs more than compensates — Chaeseokgang's horizontally layered rock looks like an enormous stack of books, formed by Cretaceous-era sedimentary deposition tilted by tectonic action. A coastal walking deck along the cliffs reaches both Chaeseokgang and the smaller Jeokbyeokgang formation in about 90 minutes. Best at low tide when the rock formations are fully exposed. Pair with Naebyeonsan trails inland.
