Haengjuoe-dong Eel Village is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Haengjuoe-dong Eel Village is a long-running cluster of grilled-eel (jangeo) restaurants in Goyang's Deogyang-gu, on the western edge of the metropolitan area near the Han River and Haengjusanseong Fortress. The village concept dates back several decades to when local restaurants began specializing in charcoal-grilled freshwater eel — most served in three preparations: salt-grilled (sogeumgui), seasoned with sweet-soy paste, and a final rice-and-bone-broth course at the end. The strip is widely considered one of the standard destinations for jangeo dining within day-trip range of Seoul. Best paired with a Haengjusanseong walk at sunset for the Han River view, as the meal-and-fortress combo runs easily into a 4-hour loop from central Seoul.
