Hallim Port

Hallim Port is one of the major fishing ports on Jeju Island's northwestern coast, located in the Hallim area where the West Sea meets the Jeju coastline. The port works year-round as the home base for a sizeable Jeju fishing fleet, with fish-auction halls operating in the early morning (typically 5:00-8:00) and a wholesale-and-retail seafood market that runs through the day. The port also serves as the jumping-off point for ferry service to the offshore Biyangdo Island, which sits about 5 km out from the port — ferries run 3-4 times daily depending on season and sea conditions, with each crossing taking about 15 minutes. Biyangdo itself is a small volcanic island with a 3-km circumference walking path, a lighthouse, and one small village; a half-day round-trip works if the ferry schedule cooperates. Around the port edge, casual seafood restaurants serve the day's catch in raw (hoe), grilled (gui), and stewed (jjigae) forms — the standard order is a hoe platter with the day's most abundant fish. The port pairs naturally with a Hyeopjae Beach visit (5 minutes west by car), the nearby Hallim Park (a large public botanical garden with cave sections), and a Biyangdo half-day side trip for a coherent northwestern-Jeju coastal day.
