Why go
Hampyeong Haesujjim is the original site of a uniquely Korean spa treatment — "haesu-jjim," or seawater steam bath. Bathers sit in covered wooden chambers fed by steam from heated salt water and local herbs, a treatment used here for over a century to ease respiratory and joint problems. The facility is unpretentious — no luxury spa veneer — but the treatment itself is striking, and the salt-rich steam and hot brine soak that follow leave skin remarkably soft. A short visit takes about ninety minutes including changing and resting. Pair with the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival in spring or the Expo Park year-round for a fuller half day in the area.
