Hanbam Village

Hanbam Village (Hanbam-maeul) is a preserved traditional village in Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do, one of Korea's smaller working traditional-village settlements that maintains active residential and agricultural use. The village combines original hanok residential structures, ancestral shrines, terraced agricultural fields, traditional stone walls, and a supporting network of walking paths through the surrounding mountain-and-valley landscape. The village's specific character comes from its relatively remote Cheongdo mountain location — Hanbam is not on the standard traditional-village tourism circuit (Hahoe, Yangdong, Naganeupseong get most of the tourism attention), which has kept the residential-village character more intact and the tourism footprint substantially smaller. Traditional-village guesthouse programs allow visitors to stay overnight in restored hanok rooms with home-cooked meals from village households. Free village access. Allow about 90 minutes for a focused walking visit. Best on weekday afternoons for a quieter experience. Access: about 30 minutes from Cheongdo Bus Terminal by taxi.
