Hanbyeok Tunnel (한벽터널)

Hanbyeok Tunnel is a small atmospheric pedestrian tunnel in central Korea, set inside a low rocky outcrop along a riverside walking path. The tunnel cuts through the rock formation as a short tunnel passage, and walking through brings visitors from one section of the riverside path to another with a brief moment of dim, cool atmosphere inside the tunnel. The tunnel itself is short — typically just a few minutes to walk through — but the combination of the dim tunnel passage, the contrast with the bright riverside landscape on either side, and the natural-rock interior surfaces gives the experience a distinct atmospheric quality. Best paired with the broader riverside walking experience that the tunnel is part of, often as a small atmospheric punctuation point on a longer riverside walk.
