Why go

Hoemunsan National Recreational Forest is a Korea Forest Service-managed mountain forest in Sunchang, Jeollabuk-do, on the slopes of Hoemunsan (837 m). The forest is one of the more rugged national recreational forests in the southwestern Korean mainland, with a network of trails ranging from gentle stream walks to a four-hour summit ascent. Cabin and dormitory accommodations are bookable through the Forest Service portal, and the forest's elevation gives it noticeably cooler air through the summer months. The site also holds a small museum on the Korean War partisan activity that occurred in the surrounding ridges. Reservations essential. Best in summer for cool air or autumn for foliage. Pair with the Sunchang Gochujang Folk Village.
