Honbul Literary House (혼불문학관)
Honbul Literary House is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Honbul Literary House in Namwon is a small museum dedicated to novelist Choi Myeong-hui (1947–1998) and her ten-volume historical epic Honbul ("Soul Fire"), one of the most ambitious Korean novels of the late 20th century. The novel traces a single Jeolla aristocratic family across the late Joseon, colonial, and post-liberation periods, and the house preserves Choi's writing room, manuscript drafts, and personal library. The setting in Namwon's Sagye-ri village — the actual model for the novel's family seat — is itself part of the experience, with surrounding hanok and rice paddies appearing throughout the text. Allow about an hour. Pair with Gwanghallu Pavilion and Silsangsa Temple.
