Jangtaesan Recreational Forest (장태산자연휴양림)

Jangtaesan Recreational Forest sits in the hills south of Daejeon and is best known for one of Korea's most concentrated metasequoia (dawn redwood) groves, planted in long straight rows in the mid-20th century. Walking under the towering redwoods on the main avenue is the signature experience — they reach over thirty meters and turn deep copper-red in late October. Beyond the redwoods, ten kilometers of trail loop through cedar and pine, with cabin and treehouse-style overnight units bookable through the Korea Forest Service portal. The redwood season fills cabins fast — book a month or more ahead. Pair with downtown Daejeon's Hanbat Arboretum for a full nature day.
