Jeoksangsan National History Archives Site (적상산사고지)
Jeoksangsan National History Archives Site is a curated attraction in Korea — full details, hours, and access info on the official Korea Tourism page.
Why go
Jeoksangsan National History Archives Site marks the location of one of the four mountain repositories where the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty were stored during and after the Imjin War. The original sago archive at the upper plateau of Jeoksangsan held one full set of the Annals from 1614 onward, deliberately placed in the high-elevation fortress to survive future invasions. The Annals themselves were moved to Seoul during the 1910 colonial annexation, but the site of the archive — and the surrounding fortress walls — remains as a designated national historic site. A small interpretive museum explains the four-archive system and Joseon documentary culture. Allow about ninety minutes including the climb. Pair with Jeoksangsan Mountain trails.
