Why go

Dogapsa is one of southern Korea's most significant Buddhist temples, located on Wolchulsan in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do. Founded in the 9th century during the Late Silla period, the temple has played a continuous role in Korean Buddhist history and houses important cultural heritage including the Five-Story Stone Pagoda (a Treasure-designated monument). The temple's setting — at the foot of dramatic Wolchulsan rock formations — gives it one of the strongest scenic backdrops of any Korean temple. For travelers serious about Korean Buddhism beyond the headline circuit (Bulguksa, Haeinsa), Dogapsa is one of the cleaner single anchors, and pairs naturally with Wolchulsan National Park hiking.
