Why go
Incheon Metropolitan City Museum is the city-run flagship history museum for Incheon, the major port-and-industrial city west of Seoul. The museum walks visitors through Incheon's long arc — prehistoric Han River basin settlement, Goryeo-era port activity, the 1883 opening of Incheon as a treaty port and the colonial-era foreign concessions, the 1950 Incheon Landing operation during the Korean War, and the modern transformation into a major container port and the home of Incheon International Airport. Period rooms reconstruct an open-port-era street, Korean War-era refugee housing, and a 1970s industrial workshop. Outside, an open-air sculpture garden and a small archaeological-relic display run along the museum grounds. Best paired with the Open Port district walking circuit (Chinatown, Modern Architecture Hall, Jayu Park) for a full Incheon history day.
