Why go
Mokpo Yangdong Church is a designated cultural-property church in Mokpo, originally built in 1910 by American Southern Presbyterian missionaries as one of the earliest Western-influenced church buildings in southwestern Korea. The brick-and-tiled-roof structure combines Western Gothic conventions (pointed arch windows, brick walls) with traditional Korean architectural elements (steeply pitched tile roof) — a hybrid style typical of late-Joseon Christian institutional buildings. The interior preserves the original wooden pews, pulpit, and stained-glass windows. The church is still in active use as a working congregation, but the historical exterior is freely viewable as part of the broader Yudal-san area cultural walking tour. Pair with the Mokpo Modern History Museum and Yudal-san hike.
