Why go

Halmae-tang is one of the older neighborhood public baths in Busan, named for the small statue of an old woman that has greeted bathers at the entrance for decades. The water comes from a natural hot spring shared with the Dongnae spa district, with high mineral content believed locally to ease muscle and joint pain. Inside, the layout is classic Korean jjimjilbang style — separate gendered baths, several pools at varying temperatures, scrub stations, and a heated common floor for naps. Foreign visitors are welcome and the staff have grown used to walking guests through the basic etiquette. Closed on the third Tuesday of each month. Best paired with a casual Dongnae market lunch.
