Why go
Gimje Metasequoia Path in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do, is a 2-kilometer tree-lined road with metasequoia (dawn redwood) trees planted in a single straight rank along both sides. The trees, planted in the mid-20th century as part of a regional reforestation effort, have grown to over 28 meters tall, forming a striking green tunnel during summer and a brilliant copper-red tunnel in late October. The road is open to vehicle traffic but is most photogenic with foot traffic. Best in late October for the autumn-foliage tunnel. Free, accessible at any hour. About 60 minutes for a casual walk. Pair with the Byeokgolje Museum of Agricultural Culture or the Arirang Literature Museum in Gimje.
