Why go
Andong International Mask Dance Festival is one of Korea's most internationally recognised local festivals, built around Hahoe byeolsingut talnori, a UNESCO-listed mask dance with hundreds of years of village ritual behind it. For two weeks in autumn, troupes from Korea and abroad perform in the open-air theatres at Andong's festival site and inside Hahoe Folk Village, layered with mask-making workshops, parades, and night programs along the Nakdong River. Compared to many city festivals it is unusually international, with English-friendly programming and good signage. It is the strongest reason to visit Andong in autumn and is best paired with Hahoe Village, Wolyeonggyo Bridge, and Andong jjimdak for a complete heritage weekend.
