영동 흥학당

Yeongdong Heunghakdang is a Joseon-era public learning hall in Yeongdong, Chungcheongbuk-do, built in the 18th century as a regional educational institution open to the broader scholarly community rather than a single family or private clan. The compound features a single substantial wooden lecture hall on a raised stone platform, with a courtyard for assembly and several smaller storage halls. Heunghakdang is unusual for the type because it operated under a community-funded charter rather than family endowment, making it one of the documented forerunners of modern Korean public education.
