Why go

Mangyangjeong Beach lies on the East Sea coast of Uljin, named for the elegant Mangyangjeong Pavilion that crowns the hill at its northern end. The beach itself is a long, fine-sand crescent backed by pine forest, with notably clear water that makes Uljin a low-key but loyal-following East Coast destination. The pavilion above — counted among the best ru pavilions of the eastern coast for centuries — sits at the perfect angle for sunrise. A short trail connects beach and pavilion in about fifteen minutes. Quietest in early summer and late September. Pair with the Wangpicheon stream area and Uljin's pine forest for a full slow day on the East Coast.
