Mudeungsan National Park (Gwangju)

Mudeungsan National Park is a substantial national park on the outskirts of Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, centered on Mudeungsan peak (1,187m) — the mountain that gives Gwangju its landscape identity and one of Korea's more distinctive volcanic-rock mountain peaks. The mountain's signature feature is a set of dramatic columnar-basalt rock formations along the summit ridge (Ipseokdae, Seoseokdae, Gyubongam) that resemble stacks of vertical stone columns — the formations are protected as Natural Monument #465 and give Mudeungsan its specific geological character distinct from typical Korean granite mountains.
