Why go
Myeonangjeong Pavilion is a sixteenth-century Joseon scholar's pavilion perched on a low hill in Damyang's bamboo country. The poet-statesman Song Sun built it as a retreat after retiring from court, and the surrounding view of paddies and pine ridges is the same one his classical sijo poems describe. The wooden structure itself is small but beautifully preserved, with a raised floor for sitting and reading. A short trail loops up to the pavilion through old pines, taking maybe twenty minutes round-trip. It pairs especially well with Damyang's nearby bamboo grove Juknokwon, the Soswaewon Garden, and the gasa literature corridor, all within a short drive.
