Why go
Naebyeonsan is the inland half of Byeonsan-bando National Park in Buan, Jeollabuk-do — a quieter, deeply forested counterpart to the more visited Oebyeonsan coastal section. The signature walk is the 8-kilometer Jiksopokpo Falls trail, which threads up a granite-bedded valley to a 22-meter twin cascade considered one of the prettiest waterfalls in the southwest. A second route climbs Sseonggol Valley to the temple Naesosa, one of Korea's most beautifully sited Buddhist monasteries. Both trails are well-marked but require a moderate fitness level. Best in spring for fresh greens, autumn for foliage, and on weekday mornings to avoid crowds. Pair with the Oebyeonsan Chaeseokgang cliffs for a full Byeonsan-bando day.
