Why go

Nangye Korean Classical Music Museum in Yeongdong, Chungcheongbuk-do, is the dedicated public museum on Nangye Park Yeon (1378-1458) — the early-Joseon-era musician and music theorist who fundamentally reorganized Korean traditional court music under King Sejong, codifying the tuning systems and compositions that became the foundation of all subsequent Korean classical music. Park Yeon's role in Korean music is comparable to that of King Sejong in language. The museum traces his life with original documents, period instruments (some that he himself designed), and substantial bilingual interpretation. Yeongdong's annual Nangye Korean Classical Music Festival in August is a major national gugak event. Free entry. About 90 minutes.
