Why go

Noam Tunnel is a 130-meter pedestrian tunnel in central Gangneung, originally cut for a now-defunct rail line and converted in recent years into a permanent media-art tunnel. Walking through, visitors are surrounded by floor-to-ceiling LED panels running rotating immersive scenes — coral reefs, cherry blossoms, starscapes, abstract color fields — synchronized with ambient sound. The piece changes seasonally. The walk is short, about 8 minutes if you don't pause, but most visitors stay 20 to 30 minutes inside, since the visual environment makes time stretch. Free, open year-round. Best at off-peak hours when fewer people are inside the tunnel. Pair with the Myeongju-dong cafe district and Gangneung Coffee Street.
