Why go

Oil Tank Culture Park is a deeply unusual space: a former petroleum reserve facility hidden behind Mount Maebongsan in northwest Seoul, decommissioned in 2000 and reborn in 2017 as a cultural complex. Five of the original massive oil tanks have been preserved and converted into performance spaces, glass pavilions, and exhibition halls — leaving the riveted steel walls and tank-shaped silhouettes visible. A sixth tank serves as a community lounge built from steel salvaged from the site. Combined with the surrounding park, the result is a striking example of industrial heritage reuse. Free to visit; some tanks open only for special exhibitions. Pair with the World Cup Park and Haneul Park nearby.
