Why go

Okjeongho is a long man-made reservoir in Imsil and Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do, formed by damming the Seomjingang river system in 1965 for hydroelectric and irrigation use. The lake is most famous for its early-morning fog phenomenon — between October and December, dense river mist rises off the warm water into cool autumn air, blanketing the lake and surrounding low ridges in a way that has made Okjeongho one of Korea's most photographed landscape locations. A 27-kilometer perimeter drive (the "Mulanaegil" or "Fog Road") loops the lake with multiple official viewing pullouts. Best at sunrise during the October-December fog season. Pair with Naejangsan National Park or the Sunchang area.
