Pocheon Art Valley [Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark]

Pocheon Art Valley is a public cultural-and-experience complex in Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do, set inside the UNESCO Hantangang River Geopark on a former granite-quarry site. The complex bundles a large quarry-pond (formed in the abandoned granite-quarry pit and now serving as a striking artificial lake with brilliant emerald-green water color), themed art-installation paths, sculpture displays, an interpretive geology center on the Hantangang Geopark and Korean granite geology, walking trails, and a monorail system that takes visitors up to the upper areas from the entrance parking lot. Granite from this quarry was used in a range of major Korean landmarks including several government buildings and the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts before the site closed and was repurposed in the 2000s as an arts complex. The combination of dramatic quarry-pond landscape, contemporary art, and UNESCO Geopark geology has made Pocheon Art Valley one of the most-visited destinations in Pocheon. Best paired with broader Pocheon-area itineraries including Sanjeonghosu Lake, Bidulginangpokpo Falls, and Herb Island for a full Pocheon day. Monorail ride is small extra charge; walking up takes about 15 minutes on a moderate incline for visitors who prefer to skip the ride.
