Why go

Pohang's Railway Forest is a four-kilometer linear park created by greening over a defunct rail corridor that used to slice through the city. Within the forest sits The Garden of Fire — a small lawn where natural gas seeps through old well shafts and burns continuously, a living artifact of the city's industrial past now framed as outdoor art. Locals walk and cycle the corridor at all hours; visitors typically come specifically for the eternal flame at the Garden of Fire and the seasonal flower beds. Free to enter. Best in early evening when the flame is most visible. Pair with Pohang's Yeongildae night view and Jukdo Market for a full city day.
