Why go

Sageunjin Beach is a small, locally beloved beach between Gangneung and Yangyang on the East Sea, kept relatively quiet by its modest size and lack of major hotel development. The beach is split into two coves by a low rocky outcrop in the middle, with the southern cove sandy and family-friendly and the northern one rockier and good for snorkeling on calm summer days. A clutch of family-run pension stays and seafood houses sit just behind the road. The beach is best known regionally for a giant red-and-yellow heart sculpture at the south end that became an unexpectedly popular Korean-couple photo prop. Best in early summer. Pair with Jumunjin Port morning auction and Gangneung Coffee Street.
