Samcheok Hwalgi Healing Forest

Samcheok Hwalgi Healing Forest is a Korea Forest Service-managed healing forest facility in Samcheok, Gangwon, on the slopes of Hwalgi-ri mountain — one of Korea's more elevated forest-therapy centers (base around 500 m). The site combines a network of therapy-walking paths (with several themed sub-trails: phytoncide-emission-rich pine paths, meditation loops, and barrier-free access sections), a wellness center with sauna-and-hot-spring facilities, forest cabins for overnight stays, and structured forest-therapy programs led by trained forest-medicine professionals. The site's specific character comes from its elevation and the surrounding old-growth Korean pine (jat-namu) canopy — Samcheok is one of Korea's more-cited traditional pine-forest regions, and Hwalgi's specific forest cover produces high phytoncide concentrations (the volatile organic compounds released by pine trees that are the biological basis for the forest-bathing/sanrim-yok health claim). Program reservations through the Korea Forest Service portal; overnight cabins book 3 months in advance. Best in summer for cool air and June-August peak phytoncide emissions. Access: about 15 minutes from downtown Samcheok by car.
