Why go

Seonunsan is a 336-meter coastal mountain in Gochang, Jeollabuk-do, designated as part of the Jeollabuk West Coast National Geopark for its distinctive Mesozoic volcanic-rock formations — particularly the angular dacite columns visible along the ridge. Despite its modest height, the mountain offers some of the most dramatic ridge-walking in the southwestern Korean mainland, with rocky pinnacles, cliff overhangs, and views down over Seonunsa Temple in the valley below. The full ridge traverse takes about three hours at moderate difficulty; a shorter loop to the temple and back via the Dosoram cliff hermitage takes 90 minutes. Best in late autumn for foliage and the geological rock-color contrast against the leaves. Pair with Seonunsa Temple and Dosoram.
