Seoul Namsan Gugakdang

Seoul Namsan Gugakdang is a dedicated Korean traditional-music performance venue on the northern slopes of Namsan mountain in central Seoul, one of the city's most respected gugak (Korean traditional music) performance spaces. The venue is operated by Sejong Center for the Performing Arts (the Seoul Metropolitan Government's flagship arts organization) and functions as the central-Seoul counterpart to the larger National Gugak Center in Seocho-gu (batch 2 verified place). The main performance hall seats about 400 in a design optimized for traditional Korean instrumental and vocal acoustics — the hall's smaller scale and traditional-style architecture give performances a more intimate quality than the larger National Gugak Center hall. Programming includes court-music revival performances, pansori vocal-storytelling, sanjo instrumental improvisation, and contemporary gugak (Korean traditional instruments in contemporary compositions).
