Why go

Sokcho Beach lies along the East Sea at the heart of Sokcho city, the most accessible major beach within easy reach of Seoul by express bus. The crescent of fine white sand stretches over a kilometer, with shallow water at the south end suited to families and stronger swimming at the north end. Behind the beach a strip of restaurants, dakgalbi joints, and the bustling Sokcho Jungang Tourist Market — famous for stuffed squid sundae — gives the beach an immediately walkable food scene. Sunrise here is the headline. Best in mid-summer for swimming or any sunrise of the year for the iconic photo. Pair with Seoraksan National Park inland.
