Why go

Songhyeon Green Plaza is a major newly opened public green space in central Seoul, on a roughly 37,000-square-meter site adjacent to Gyeongbokgung Palace and the U.S. Embassy that had been closed to public access for decades behind tall walls. The site was historically tied to a Joseon-era yangban residential district called Songhyeon, and after the wall came down it was opened as an interim public lawn-and-tree green plaza ahead of the planned construction of a future cultural-art complex on the site. As of opening, the space functions as a wide open green expanse with grass lawns, mature trees, and walking paths, framed by views of Gyeongbokgung's rear walls and central Seoul's surrounding landmarks. Pairs naturally with Gwanghwamun Square, Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, and the broader central-Seoul walking circuit.
